Argenton-sur-Creuse

Argenton-sur-Creuse

We are surrounded by a broad selection of attractions that are within easy reach of us.  The ancient town of Argenton-sur-Creuse and the bordering town of St Marcel, with its Roman museum ‘Argentomagus’ (8 km) offers a wonderful introduction to the architecture and relaxation that is in the immediate area of Londinium’s;  Chateauroux (30 km), the capital of Indre (Department 36) has a picturesque old town and some wonderful restaurants.  Lac de Chambon (13 km) offers a variety of water sports during the summer months, such as: swimming, water skiing, kayaking, banana/sofa ski-ing and sailing.  Or just sit in one of the water front cafes and enjoy a coffee whilst watching the fun on the lake.

You can take a slow and leisurely trip down the creuse in a Kayak.  These can be hired by the hour of the day.  You can explore the magnificent and rugged Creuse Valley. (The Valley of the Painters), this has been nominated by UNESCO 2013:  Untouched natural areas, with rugged rock formations…

As there is no rough water on the lake,  being calm is ideal for children and non-experienced kayakers.

Or, if you really want a calm trip with nothing to do but watch the scenery – take the ‘Tour Boat’.  This trip takes 1.1/2 hrs around the Eguzon Lake which will take you past the ruins of Crozant, le rocher des fileuses, the beaches.  This tour has a guide who gives a running commentary of the lake and the power-dam.  They are also able to answer any questions that you may have.

The Brenne National Park is a short drive to the west of Argenton-sur-Creuse where migratory birds concentrate before flying on to their winter or summer feeding grounds – known locally as the ‘Land of the 1,000 lakes’.  We can provide our local knowledge and information to guests who may have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area.
